BIRTHDAY AND MAOLUD CELEBRATION: RELIGIOUS, CULTURAL OR INNOVATIVE?
Did the Prophet, sollaLohu ‘alaihi wasallam celebrate his birthday? If he did not, why should we celebrate it for him? Did the Companions of the Prophet, rodhiyaLohu anhum celebrate their birthdays or that of the Rosul, sollaLohu ‘alaihi wasallam? If they did not and we insist on it, does it mean we love the Prophet, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam more than them? Who among the great scholars of the deen celebrated his own birthday or the birthday of the Messenger, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam? If there is none, are we more pious or knowledgeable than them? Is celebrating individual birthday or that of the Rosul, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam a good thing? If it is, then how come the Prophet, sollaLohu alaihi wasallam did not tell us about it? Did he forget to tell us or he didn’t complete his message?
